How it started

In 1996 there occurred a territorial dispute between the Turkish and Greek governments over the island of Imea / Kardak. About Winpeace

Our long struggles within the women's movement endowed us with rich experiences. Feminism is not a way of thought and action aimed solely at sexual discrimination. We learned to study the culture of others. We learned how to analyze and distinguish the differences between us, which allows for the opening of new roads of action. With great sensitivity, we can see invisible, probable, bridges of communication. For women, mutual understanding, peaceful co-existence and non-violence in resolving our differences, are imbedded deeply in our consciousness and are inviolable principles. >> Click to read

Winpeace projects

WINPEACE have started a project jointly with Eymir Culture Foundation, on August 2002, receiving funds from the European Commission. The aim of this project is to achieve cooperation between the women of Greece and Turkey on issues that are of interest for both parties. The underlying assumption is that working together and sharing experiences will promote a better understanding between the women of the two countries.
