LITERATURE EXCHANGE PROJECT
Project Summary:
One book written by a female author from each country will be translated into the other country’s language and printers will be contacted to promote printing.
Aims:
- To contribute to the reduction of negative stereotypes and misperceptions by stimulating readers to read books dealing with the two cultures in a positive constructive manner by increasing the production and translation of these books.
- To contribute to the understanding " the other ".
Relevance of the project with the target group:
The literature translation activity will strengthen the economical situation of the woman authors concerned and enlarge their area of impact (audience), while readers will have chance to see the two societies from women's point of view.
Target group and beneficiaries:
The direct beneficiaries of the literature exchange will be the readers in both countries.
What has been achieved so far:
Two book selection committees have been established in both countries, by WINPEACE, and after a thorough examination, have selected two books, one by Erendiz Atasü, “A Mid-Age’s Dream”, and the other as “I’m Leaving by Tomorrow” by Mirella Kalostypi. The translation of the latter book has been started by Ayşecan Ergev, and would be completed until March 2004. The Turkish woman writer’s book, will be translated by Anthi Karra until August 2004. Then we would start to contact with the possible publishers.
