WINPEACE PROJECTS
WINPEACE have started a project jointly with Eymir Culture Foundation, on August 2002, receiving funds from the European Commission. The aim of this project is to achieve cooperation between the women of Greece and Turkey on issues that are of interest for both parties. The underlying assumption is that working together and sharing experiences will promote a better understanding between the women of the two countries. Thus the project intends to serve a dual purpose: ie. Addressing the urgent needs of women’s empowerment and contributing to peaceful relations between the two countries.
The main target group of the project is the women of both countries. It is expected that 50 persons will be involved directly in the project’s activities.
The project consists of 3 activities, all to be realised by Turkish and Greek women.
- Women’s Cooperation in Agro-tourism,
- Disarmament and Peace Education Campaigns, highlighting the importance of these issues for women
- Literature Exchange
Objectives
The overall objective of the project is to allow Greek and Turkish women to know each other, to develop harmonious relations, to nourish peaceful ideas, and to promote non-violent actions. We wish to create a network for the de-escalation of tensions, as well as contributing to de-escalation in arms expenditures.
The project aims to achieve the following results:
- a) Empowering women in social, cultural and economic fields,
- b) Encouraging their creative participation in the process of peace-building,
- c) Promoting an awareness of and respect for human and women’s rights,
- d) Promoting the ideas of peace and disarmament among women.
Other than the above mentioned project, WINPEACE have been organizing Youth Exchange programmes from 2000 onwards, for high school and university students from Greece and Turkey.
